Winter Tree Pruning

Let’s prune.

The ideal time for pruning trees is usually in winter, usually in January and February due to the following:

  • Trees are dormant. In this sleepy state, trees undergo less shock due to pruning.

  • No leaves on trees. That makes the structure of the tree much easier to see.

  • Frozen soil. Without compacting the soil around the tree’s roots, pruning can be done. Less damage will also be done to nearby landscaping from trampling and heavy equipment.

By fact, branches that are weakened or rotting will drop harmlessly into the forest floor. Nonetheless, they need to be relocated before they collapse near homes and highways so that they do not cause collateral damage or injury.

Branches on small trees that are within easy reach of the ground can be cut. But any pruning job that would involve climbing a ladder is best left to a professional that has special safety training and equipment to manage proper tools, the height and the weight of falling branches.

Pruning can not only lead to accidents without the proper knowledge and training but can also cause long-term damage to a tree, causing it to degrade or die.

We @ Alpha y La Omega are trained not only in safety but in tree care.
